Navajo Training The Trainers - Understanding Sexuality - Spring 2012

The 20th course will be held over three months in Spring 2012. To ensure a place on the course please complete the attached form as soon as possible. Please be aware that places are filled very quickly and limited to sixteen. To take part you must have some training and/ or group work experience or be able to influence organisational change within your own organisation or group.

Please check the dates below to make sure you can attend all five days of the training. If after applying, you find you cannot attend all five days, please let us know so that your place can be offered to someone else and we can put your name down for the next course.

The dates for the training are as follows at Lancashire Constabulary Headquarters:

Tues 20th March

Thurs 5th April

Tues 17th April

 

Minimum experience for participants

Ability to demonstrate at least one year’s training and/ or group work experience or the ability to demonstrate your role in organisational change. The final decision on participant involvement is made by the assessor.

The training will take place over five full days between 9.30am and 4.30pm. Participants must attend all sessions to ensure continuity, learning and group dynamics.

 

During the training participants will:-

  • Receive training which is delivered within the boundaries agreed by the group in an environment that facilitates learning.
  • Examine values and attitudes towards and lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans people.
  • Discuss sexuality and diversity.
  • Develop an understanding of the social construction of homophobia, transphobia and heterosexism.
  • Develop an understanding of the oppressive impact of homophobia, transphobia and heterosexism.
  • Develop an understanding of internalised homophobia/ transphobia.
  • Discuss the differences between sexual expression and sexual identity.
  • Share experiences of homophobia/ transphobia and heterosexism in the workplace, during training and in groups, and how we can address these experiences effectively if they happen again.
  • Discuss issues of effective co-training and training alone.
  • Work through each exercise as a participant and discuss relevant training issues.
  • Share practical training and group work experiences
  • Have the opportunity to deliver a short piece of relevant issues training to the rest of the group for constructive feedback.

Certification

Part of the course is assessed for those participants who wish to obtain a certificate. This does not include assessment of training skills but only of an Understanding of Sexuality.

The course is free to all LCFT staff and LGBT community members who can affect change within their groups or community (empowerment of local LGBT community). There will be a charge of £400 for statutory organisational representatives and rates are negotiable for the Third Sector.
