South Lakeland Interfaith Forum and Kendal Ecumenical Group celebrated NIF with three events in Kendal.
The Mayor of Kendal Councillor Jonathan Brook invited SLIF and KEG for a Mayor’s Parlour in Kendal Town Hall celebration on Saturday 26November 2011. This included readings and prayers from the faiths represented in Kendal and local faith organisations. A booklet of the readings was prepared by SLIF.
Sufi Nuh Nazir led an evening event including a Zikr on Saturday 19 November 2011, the eve of National Interfaith Week, at Fellside Centre.
On Sunday 20November 2011, Interfaith Sunday was celebrated at Kendal Unitarian Chapel to "gather in wondrous diversity the better to build bridges toward greater understanding and compassion”. An Interfaith Service led by Rev Celia Cartwright, included readings and prayers from Sufi Nuh Nazir and representatives of local faith communities and faith organizations. This was followed by a shared vegetarian lunch and a creative meditation.
